Family Fun in Chicago

Sorry for the lack of posting... These last few weekends have been crazy!!

So a couple weekends ago we flew to Chicago for my cousin's wedding. Since it had been two months since the last time we hung out with the family, we were super excited to hang out. Unfortunately it was a super quick visit. We were in town for less than 48 hours, but we still enjoyed the little time we had. (Let's just say everyone needs to come visit, SOON!)

Here are a few of the highlights from the wedding. (Surprisingly, after gorging on a Portillo's lunch, we still fit into our dress clothes!)

1 - Country sing-a-long in the car
on the way to the wedding
2 - Amit's seersucker suit
(turns psychedelic in pictures)
3 - Photoshoots with the boys
First, trying to be serious
Second, actually being serious
4 -Crazy photo fun
5 - Fabulous looking families
Then the real party began... with some crazy picture taking.
I love my boys!
And I love me some cousin time!
Amit went as a New Englander...
looks like Nate was a mobster.
When the dancing started,
so did the crazy pictures.
The weekend went by way too quickly, but it was so much fun! Thanks to everyone for the fabulous, fast visit!

Happy Fourth!

Independence Day is our favorite holiday... We love everything about it; the barbecues, summer weather, the decor (well, that's more me than Amit), and of course, fireworks. This was our first Fourth celebrated in Boston, so we decided to head downtown with the Keyes family to find a great spot on the Charles to watch the fireworks up close. We got downtown around 3 and had about 7 hours to entertain ourselves while we waited for the show to start. Since I had my camera with me, what better way for me to entertain myself than by taking some fabulous photos...
My handsome husband
Check out that view...
We had a fantastic, unobstructed view of the barge.
We all talked and talked under the sun.
I love any excuse to lay out by the water and get tan.
Dinner from Domino's was delicious!
Thank goodness for the three little ones...
If we weren't as distracted by them,
we would have probably run out of things to talk about.
I also worked (a little bit) on my portrait taking skills.
Finally sunset arrived and Amit took a great picture!
One year we will watch the fireworks from a boat like those...
We had such a great time. We were lucky to be close to a speaker so we could hear the Boston Pops concert with guest star Toby Keith!! (The country music made it feel a little more like home.) The fireworks were awesome! John got some amazing pictures of them, we just stood there and watched them. It was well worth the seven hour wait. When we go again next year, it might just be by kayak or boat.

There she blows!

That's right, we went whale watching again! We've gone on and on about how much we love living near the ocean; I don't even know how we ever lived so far away from it. Since we both had a day off on Monday, we thought we should do something a little different than just hanging out by the ocean. So we decided on whale watching. Though it was our second time, we saw even more whales and I got even better photos! (PS - click on the pictures to enlarge them, they are amazing!)
Had to take a photo proving the two of us were on the boat...
Our first whale sighting... a good sign for the rest of the trip!
(It was an even better sign that I got my timing down.)
My first good tail shot,
don't worry they will get better.
After a lot of pictures taken from far away,
we stumbled upon a pair of humpbacks...
Here are a few of our favorite shots of them...
(yes, they did both breathe at almost the same time, sweet, huh?)
Then we started to get some amazing shots...
We found a group with three whales
willing to hang out super close to the boat!
Check out their beautiful dive...
After a few dives to go eat,
they ended up surfacing super close to us!
(Those white shapes under the water are their pectoral fins.)
Later on we found a lone humpback,
and had the closest encounter we will probably ever have with one.
It was unbelieveable.
He (or she) was HUGE!
Had to get a few more pictures of us!
The whale watching trip was amazing. They are incredible creatures and I think that we've started to take the beauty of the ocean and its inhabitants for granted. The trip was great motivation to start thinking more "green." The craziest part of the trip, that I couldn't catch on camera, was this one lone whale that we all spotted breaching, yes BREACHING, way off in the distance. The captain tried to get us over there to see it, but by the time we got close he was done. It was so cool to see the whale leaping out of the water and creating a huge splash. Maybe we'll actually get pictures of that behavior on our next trip.

Now to leave you with a few more of our favorite photos...

BBQs and Beaches

I am loving my second summer in New England. There's something so relaxing, yet so fun, about spending our weekends on the beach. Last summer we spent a lot of time sightseeing, so this is going to be a much more mellow, beach bum type of summer. We could both just lay at the beach for hours. We usually do, unless we end up going to the beach with friends, then things end up being a lot more fun.

On Saturday, we headed to Cohasset to see the Keyes. The boys were going to do some studying and Amit wanted to spend his study break at Cohasset Beach, which we heard was gorgeous. Lucky for us the Keyes got their beach sticker! We all piled into their minivan (which I love - vans are great, anyone want to give me one?) and headed to enjoy the sun.
It was a gorgeous afternoon...
but the beach wasn't too crowded!
The water temp was supposedly 63,
felt more like 36 to us.
The boys still went in anyways!
Aiden's floaty is so awesome!
While the boys were getting wet,
I was hanging with my little man, Ben.
He's my buddy. I love him!!!
Check out his hat - how adorable is that?!
Amit got a shot of where we camped out.
Abby wasn't interested in the water...
she decided to bury Amit's feet in the sand.
Amit looked like he enjoyed it.
Here's a few other of my favorite shots from the beach...
Just in case you were wondering whether or not the boys actually studied, here's your proof. Amit wasn't just studying, he was literally reading his slides out loud to Abby, who kept pointing at the xrays asking what it was. It was nice to see Amit trying to recruit the next generation of dentists...

I'll leave you with one final photo, just to get your mouth watering. We had a delicious feast. We love barbecue!
